Florida SEDAN

"Saving Lives and Protecting Property through Amateur Radio Digital Communications."

Background Information

The Hurricanes that hit the great state of Florida in 2004 was more then anyone could have ever imagined.

FLA-SEDAN through the help of dedicated Ham radio operators rose to the occasion more than one time.

In Punta Gorda There was a marginal link to the State warning Point on SEDAN till Tony KD4PYM installed a SEDANode in Venice.

Then there was 24/7 connectivity through Tony's hard work to install the Venice Florida  SEDANode.

Sedan was able to send and receive messages from the State Warning Point in Tallahassee from the Charlotte County EOC and from the Staging area that was set up.

In Vero Beach/Indian River County, the SEDANode helped Wayne KA1VRF to get NWS weather reports from Melbourne NWS.

These weather reports were helpful to Wayne KA1VRF while the Internet was down and Vero Beach was recovering from a hurricane.

FLA-SEDAN has a group of dedicated hams that go wherever a storm hits and set up Emergency Digital Communications. This group takes portable packet units and they are able to set up temporary SEDANodes to make a link with surrounding nodes that are on SEDAN.

The dedicated Ham's that help SEDAN are the reason SEDAN is still alive and growing in the great state of Florida.

FLA-SEDAN is growing and in need for MFJ 1270C TNC'S, that we make into SEDANodes.
